QuantaSol, a U.K. solar startup, was founded in 2006 based upon multiple quantum well technology spun out of Imperial College London. The company raised over £7 million of venture capital funding in multiple rounds to produce a triple junction concentrator cell that was more efficient for power conversion in concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar power generation system. QuantaSol’s concentrator III-V semiconductor chip design was based on patented technology and provided the buyer with the best light to power conversion in a CPV solar power generator, a critical metric for the industry.
